Music

In addition to my work as a data scientist and linguist, I am also an avid amateur (formerly professional) jazz and pop/rock pianist, composer, and singer-songwriter. You can find my SoundCloud page, with various downloadable audio files, at soundcloud.com/rob-pasternak. You can also view my YouTube channel, Rob Makes Music, here. Finally, here are some links to more YouTube videos of my music being performed:

  • "Blues for Baltimore", performed by the Williams College Jazz Ensemble with myself on piano. This is one of my first big band tunes; I composed it when I was 20.

  • Cinematic Suite, performed by the Williams College Jazz Ensemble with myself on piano. This was part of my undergraduate thesis in music composition and jazz piano performance, and features lots of showoff-y solos on my end. Renowned baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan also sits in for a stretch and steals the show.

  • "Rain", performed by Aspen Jordan (lead vocals), Woo Chan (Chaz) Lee (lead vocals), and myself (piano and backup vocals). For this one I wanted to write a song whose lyrics were extremely simple, but evoked a very specific image.
